Filter-aid juice filtration system

A filter-aid system uses a selected porous filter layer to capture suspended material from juice. The vessel, liquid supply and filtrate collection operate through a defined filtration cycle, followed by removal of the accumulated material.

Establish a permeable layer for the suspended material

In a precoat arrangement, the filter aid forms a layer on the support before normal juice filtration. The liquid passes through while retained material accumulates. The selected vessel and support construction determine how that layer is formed and removed.

Filter-aid grade and any ongoing dosing are process choices. Match them to the feed and the required filtrate, with food suitability and media handling included in the operating procedure.

Evaluate the whole cycle rather than the first filtrate sample

As retained material builds up, resistance to liquid flow changes. The production cycle therefore includes preparation, filtration, the agreed endpoint and cleaning or discharge before restarting.

Track filtrate quality together with flow and pressure behaviour. If the desired juice profile changes, review the selected media and cycle rather than assuming one setting suits every aril supply and extraction condition.

Treat filter-aid filtration as its own process choice

A filter-aid vessel and a tubular membrane unit use different separation structures and different consumables. Their operating cycles, retained streams and cleaning needs should be compared against the juice specification.

Before opening a vessel, isolate it and follow its depressurisation procedure. Inspection of the selected supports and seals is separate from routine circulation cleaning. The installation should leave sufficient space for the actual removal method.

Questions about this equipment and process

Is filter-aid filtration required before ultrafiltration?

They are separate clarification options. Combine stages only where the actual feed and product requirement justify the additional operation.
